PerhapsLove… Writer’s Statement

Writer’s Statement

Even after being destroyed…
someone could see you,
not for what they want from you,
but for what still breathes underneath your ruin.

I crafted this story to show the vulnerability of a person and the influence that people close to you can have. Especially those who are supposed to be the caring, loving ones. They can end up creating a very hurtful and unhealthy relationship to the self, if you don’t take care, and if you don’t set boundaries.

But… What if, instead of being met with cruelty or indifference, someone was met with grace? What if a person, no longer searching, no longer performing, no longer able to give, simply was, and that was enough for someone to recognize the soul in them? Not because they were whole. But because they were still there.

You see, normally, when people are in dire situations, they don’t meet those who help. You’re weak in that moment and you’re attackable.

In Perhaps Love, I wanted to show exactly the contrary.

That someone who had already been deeply hurt, whose vulnerability had been exploited down to the most cruel level imaginable, and who was no longer searching for anything… experiences a miracle.

He meets someone who doesn’t use or abuse him. Who doesn’t need anything from him. Who doesn’t demand energy he no longer has, the energy he used to give just to receive some kind of recognition.

This person, out of authenticity and purity, recognizes the soul.

And instead of taking,
she nurtures what was still there and brings it back to life.
